Sodium Fluoride | Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate | Sodium Metabisulfite
The baking soda we know as sodium bicarbonate is made from Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate. Furthermore, it is a chemical compound with the formula NaHCO3. As a salt, it contains sodium cation (Na+) and bicarbonate ion (HCO3−).
Hydrogen carbonate is used in many different ways.
- As a leavening agent, baking soda is used in cooking.
- Many baked and fried foods contain grains, such as pancakes, cakes, soda bread, quick bread, and other baked and fried foods.
- The use of sodium bicarbonate in pest control is effective in controlling fungal growth.
- People use sodium bicarbonate as a fire extinguisher by throwing it over small grease or electrical fires.
- Carbon dioxide gas is released as a reaction product of sodium bicarbonate's reaction with acids.
In reaction with the acid, it releases carbon dioxide. Ultimately, it causes the battery to expand and gives it its characteristic texture.
These reactions are facilitated by various acidic components such as lemon juice, cream of tartar, phosphates, yogurt, buttermilk, cocoa, and vinegar. People use Baking Soda and sourdough together to make a lighter product that tastes less acidic.
Additionally, it is registered as a biopesticide by the Environmental Protection Agency.
The reason is that Sodium Bicarbonate releases carbon dioxide when heated.
It is used in chemical laboratories to neutralize acid solutions or spills. Although Sodium Metabisulfite reacts with both acids and bases, it is not appropriate to use it to neutralize bases.
